New Projects

Our inaugural project coordinated under Rabsal will be to create a participatory documentary of Tibetan life with Tibetan high school students from Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The tangible media product from this collaboration will be a digital ethnography of Tibetan culture as seen and filmed by the students in their daily lives. A training program will also be established at a partner institution in which groups of selected students will receive four months training in elementary film-making. They will then travel to villages throughout Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture to create short films about how they would represent their culture to outsiders. The students will be encouraged to interact with their fellow villagers throughout the process.

An additional outcome of the project will be a meta-documentary of the participatory film-making process. Rabsal staff will document the progress of the student's work over the four-month period and accompany each group of students in their final assignments, while providing technical and support services.
