Current Projects

Rabsal is currently working on two projects. The first is a short documentary film on an annual debating competition in a monastery in Sershul County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. This project is currently in pre-production and its expected completion is early summer 2011. The second is a documentary trailer of pilgrims who perform full-bodied prostrations in their journey to Lhasa. This trailer will be a pre-cursor to a larger project, a full-feature documentary story of the motivations, joys and suffering of Tibetan pilgrims. This is expected to commence in early 2011. Last updated: June 2010.

Past Projects

In 2008, Rabsal implemented its inaugural project to create a short documentary of Tibetan life with Tibetan high school students from Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. A training course was run for fifteen students who received four months classroom training in elementary filmmaking and photography, and then practical training in villages across Ganzi.

Rabsal Kham Filmmaking Training

Student film work was entered for an international 'silent film' contest organized by i.cubed in Hong Kong, an NGO that promotes youth development and youth exchange programs between different cultures. Two sample films were selected, both of which reveal a brief glimpse into different aspects of Tibetan culture.
